Harinam vedic astrology
Om Namo Narayanaya.
Welcome to this website offering vedic astrology services. Please see below for an introduction to the subject of vedic astrology.
What is the philosophy behind vedic astrology?
Vedic astrology is an ancient science and art of understanding human life. It is based on yoga philosophy which holds that we are all pure and divine in our essential true nature. This knowledge was given to humanity many years ago by the yogis of ancient times.
Vedic astrology is based on the concept of karma; as you sow, so shall you reap. It shows us the good and bad karmas that await us in this lifetime. For example, karmas related to health, relationships, profession, spirituality and more. It also shows us when these karmas are likely to be experienced; a special feature of vedic astrology is the ability to time events.
The beauty of vedic astrology is that it carries a message of hope and optimism. It provides practical solutions, often called 'remedial measures, to strengthen the good karmas in one's chart, as well as to reduce the bad karmas. As the yogis say, "What you have done, only you can undo". Vedic astrology empowers us to know and deal effectively with our karma. And also to overcome both good and bad karma and attain the state of spiritual freedom (nirvana or moksha) if desired.
What planets do vedic astrology charts consider?
There are 9 'grahas' (loosely translated as planets) in vedic astrology that indicate our karmas. These are Surya (the sun), Chandra (the moon), Magal (Mars), Guru (Jupiter), Buddha (Mercury), Shukra (Venus), Shani (Saturn), Rahu (North Node of the moon) and Ketu (South Node of the moon).
What is the vedic astrology birth chart?
The vedic astrology birth chart looks at the position of the nine grahas mentioned above within the twelve signs of the zodiac at the moment that one is born. It is thought that we are born at the precise moment when the cosmos reflects our karma for this lifetime.
The 12 signs are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. Each of these signs represents a 'house' or domain of our life e.g. self, family, spouse, career, wealth, spirituality and so on.
Aside from the 12 zodiac signs, there are also 27 constellations of stars that are considered.
Vedic astrology looks at a variety of charts based on various mathematical derivations of the original birth chart. Two key charts that are popularly used by vedic astrologers are known at the 'Rasi' and the 'Navamsa' (9th divisional) charts. There are many more charts that can be looked at to learn about specific areas of one's life. Accuracy of birth time is important for correct calculation of the main chart, and even more so, for calculation of divisional charts.
What are remedial measures in vedic astrology?
Every person comes into this world to experience some positive and some negative karma. Both of these can be seen in the vedic astrology chart. Positive karma brings joy and negative karma brings suffering in one's life.
Remedial measures are specific actions one can do to strengthen one's good karma and reduce the negative karma in life. This increases joy in life and reduces suffering.
Some of the key remedial measures of vedic astrology include mantra recitation, doing of charitable acts, ceremonial worship of the divine or the grahas (via puja, homam and so on) and wearing specific gemstones. The performance of acts of worship and charity are particularly powerful. Wearing gemstones is a lesser method.
Remedial measures are one of the great specialties of vedic astrology and empower us to take charge of our lives and improve our circumstances. You can read more about mantras as remedial measures on the page on this subject.
